When Vanessa awoke, she was alone in the tent. She felt happy and relaxed in her body and raised her arms over her head, stretching a little. There was a dreamy smile on her face.
What a wonderful lover Kian was. Other men did – all too rarely – make an effort, but none of them came close to Kian’s prowess. He was unique.
Where had he ever learned it? He knew exactly where a woman was sensitive and how he could spoil her, as though he could read her wishes, know ahead of time what she liked the most.
Oh, well. She sighed and took a deep breath. Her hands returned to the sleeping bag and ran over her breasts. They tingled. What a wonderful night. If she counted those kisses, it was the second Namibian night that without question would remain in her memory.
The tent flap opened so unexpectedly that she almost blushed, as Kian came in and looked down at her. “How’s it going? Like some coffee?”
A wonderful lover. Right.
“Is there biltong for breakfast, too?” she asked sourly.
“Didn’t you sleep well?” He let himself down smoothly onto the ground beside her. “You didn’t have much time to, that’s true.”
Her bad mood disappeared. His tender glance made it impossible for her to think of biltong.
“You didn’t either,” she answered with a smile.
He leaned over to her and gave her a light, unshaven kiss. “I didn’t notice.” He ran his hand tenderly over her hair that surrounded her face in disarray. “Get up. Unfortunately we don’t have time for a cosy morning in bed.” He began to push himself up off the floor, but she held him by his collar.
“Not even for a kiss?” she asked. “And what bed are you talking about?”
He bent down to her and as he kissed her, she put her arms around his neck and pulled him down to her. His weight pressed the sleeping bag between her legs and reminded her even more of last night than her thoughts had.
“Mmmm,” he said with relish to her mouth. “You’re so hot that I would rather just slip into the sack with you.”
“Why don’t you?” She put her hands on his sexy, muscular bottom and pulled him against her.
“N!xau is outside,” he said.
“Oh.” She let go of his bottom.
“Yes, unfortunately.” He smiled crookedly. “He’s been here for a while. We didn’t want to wake you up too early.”
“You’re so considerate.” Vanessa made a face.
“Yes, aren’t we?” Kian stood up. “He’s found the poachers’ tracks. He thinks we can get them today.”
“Well, then . . .” Vanessa took a deep breath and sighed, “I guess I don’t have a choice.”
“Hurry,” he said, turning to go, but then he turned suddenly and jumped over her like an athlete, landing in a crouch. His lips pressed hotly against hers. “Thanks for a marvellous night,” he whispered. “You were wonderful.” Then he got up as fast as a leopard and left the tent.
Vanessa ran a finger over her lips. They were still tingling from Kian’s kiss and wanted more.
